Assessing Talent for Organisations
Integral to all the coaching programmes are a range of third-party competency and capability tools that assess strengths, resilience, psychological safety, decision styles, leadership, attitude, culture fit and teams insights. These are quick to complete using mobile or desktop apps. I am a certified assessor for the resulting reports.
These talent assessments include a 90-minute coaching session and aim to increase self-awareness, a key leadership skill, by identifying the current focus of both individuals and groups. They also enable clients to identify areas for development and how to address these successfully.
Below is an overview of the strengths, resilience and psychological safety assessments. Please contact me for further information on Leadership Insights, Decision Styles, Winning Attitude and Culture Fit assessments.
Individual strengths
The individual strengths assessment explores primary strengths, career and performance focus, interpersonal skills, decision-making processes, leadership and delivery. The exercise helps you identify where your focus is and make adjustments if necessary.
Group strengths
Teams who know their collective strengths and development needs are better at actively seeking support from each other and offering it when needed. These teams develop every member, leading to greater progress and collaboration.
The group strengths exercise helps leadership groups, management teams or business support teams understand their collective strengths and explore how they deliver results. It identifies each executive’s top-seven and bottom-seven performing strengths and explores their collective impact.
The programme starts with a strengths assessment and one-to-one coaching sessions, with each group member exploring the potential impact of their preferred way of operating on their own performance and that of the group or organisation. This increased self-awareness enables them to find ways to achieve their development goals in a safe, supportive environment.
The group session identifies the current focus and how this impacts performance, leadership and the business’ operations. We identify any important gaps and strategies to bridge these.
Resilience
Learning resilience is key to withstanding challenges both in the workplace and beyond. Resilience enables us to shield ourselves against stress and burnout. It means we can embrace setbacks as learning opportunities, improving our performance and broadening our capabilities. Studies have shown that building resilience can bring about tangible results for workplaces – for example, it:
- Enhances productivity
- Reduces the number of sick days
- Improves alertness and focus, translating into improved staff health and reduced workplace accident numbers
- Protects against mental health problems such as depression and anxiety
- Fosters a more caring workplace culture, promoting employee wellbeing and keeping open communication channels
- Reduces the likelihood of burnout.
This coaching programme is for managers, executives and business owners who want to improve their resilience. It comprises a 20-minute questionnaire followed by a 90-minute coaching session.
Together we will examine the detailed third-party report and explore various themes, emotions and coping mechanisms to combat the challenging emotions that could stand in the way of future success. This improved awareness is key to building resilience.
Psychological safety
Psychological safety has nothing to do with your personality and everything to do with the environment. Considerable changes within your organisation – such as ownership, leadership, redundancies or restructure – could be leaving your people feeling vulnerable, unable to raise issues of concern or scared to admit to a mistake. If you are witnessing this, your people are likely to be feeling psychologically unsafe.
There can be several reasons for this, some real and some that could be misconceptions. It is important to understand the difference.
Using a third-party assessment tool, I help individuals, teams and the leadership understand how people feel when working within the team, department or organisation, looking at whether everyone feels included and safe. We will work collaboratively to create coping strategies for improving the working environment so that everyone can take acceptable risks, challenge others or raise concerns.
In general, this exercise is run after and in conjunction with the resilience assessment.
Additional coaching sessions
Clients who have chosen to undertake further coaching have used the assessment results for a number of purposes, including:
- To increase group collaboration and effectiveness
- To confidently articulate where they add value to an organisation in interviews, client meetings or appraisal
- To increase confidence.
